Former Manchester City and Belgium defender takes charge at Turf Moor
Burnley Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Vincent Kompany as first-team manager. Kompany joins the Clarets after leaving his role as manager of Anderlecht, where he won the Belgian First Division A title in his first season in charge.
The 36-year-old has signed a three-year contract at Turf Moor and will take charge of the team for the start of the 2023/24 season. He will be assisted by Craig Bellamy, who has also left Anderlecht to join Burnley.
Kompany is a highly respected figure in the game and has a wealth of experience at both club and international level. He made over 500 appearances for Manchester City, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
He also played 89 times for Belgium, captaining the team to third place at the 2018 World Cup. Kompany is a UEFA Pro Licence holder and has been praised for his innovative and attacking style of play.
Burnley chairman Alan Pace said: "We are delighted to welcome Vincent to Burnley Football Club. He is a proven winner and a highly respected figure in the game. We are confident that he has the qualities to lead us back to the Premier League and build on the progress we have made in recent years."
Kompany said: "I am delighted to be joining Burnley Football Club. This is a club with a great history and tradition, and I am excited about the challenge of leading the team back to the Premier League. I believe that we have a squad with the potential to achieve great things, and I am looking forward to working with the players and staff to help them reach their full potential."
Kompany's first game in charge of Burnley will be a pre-season friendly against Accrington Stanley on July 8. The Clarets will then begin their Championship campaign on August 5 with a trip to Huddersfield Town.
