Turkey: A Land of History and Culture

From the Ancient World to the Modern Day

The name "Turkey" first appeared in Western sources in the late 11th century, referring to the Seljuk-controlled lands in Anatolia. The country has a long and rich history, dating back to the ancient world. It was home to some of the world's earliest civilizations, including the Hittites, the Greeks, and the Romans. In the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire conquered Turkey and ruled it for over 500 years. The empire collapsed after World War I, and Turkey was founded as a republic in 1923.

Today, Turkey is a modern, democratic country with a population of over 80 million people. It is a member of the United Nations, NATO, and the Council of Europe. Turkey is also a major economic power, with a GDP of over $850 billion. The country is a popular tourist destination, with its many historical sites, beautiful beaches, and delicious food.
