Tatyana Maria Rus of the Netherlands defeated Romania's Ana Bogdan in straight sets in the first round of the 2023 US Open on Tuesday.
Rus, who is ranked No. 86 in the world, won 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 49 minutes.
The 35-year-old Rus is a two-time Grand Slam champion, having won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title in 2019 and the Australian Open mixed doubles title in 2023.
Bogdan, who is ranked No. 100 in the world, was making her US Open debut.
The 29-year-old Romanian has won one WTA Tour title, the Istanbul Cup in 2022.
Rus will face either No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek of Poland or lucky loser Harriet Dart of Great Britain in the second round.
Swiatek is the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion.
Dart is a 26-year-old British player who is ranked No. 133 in the world.
She reached the fourth round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
