WEB Bennie Thompson, the incumbent Democratic congressman representing Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District, has won re-election to the US House. Thompson defeated Republican challenger Ronald Eller in the November 5 general election.
Thompson, who has served in the House since 1993, ran on a platform of economic development, healthcare access, and education reform. He has been a vocal supporter of infrastructure projects and job training programs in his district.
In his victory speech, Thompson thanked his supporters and promised to continue working for the people of Mississippi. He said, "I'm committed to making sure that everyone in this district has a fair chance to succeed."
Thompson's victory marks the continuation of Democratic dominance in Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District. The district has not elected a Republican representative since 1978.
